5 Christmas activities not to be missed in Porto

4 de December, 2024

Porto is a wonderful European city to visit: the warmth that is so characteristic of its people as well as the history and modernity that can be found in its streets. But when we enter the magical Christmas season, this magic is multiplied. Porto has many activities that can brighten your Christmas spirit.

At Olivia Singular Houses we share 5 Christmas activities not to be missed!

1. Inauguration of the Christmas Tree

On November 30th, at 6pm, the Christmas Tree on Avenida dos Aliados was lit for the first time in 2024! You can expect a visual and sound video mapping show “Rebirth of a Star”, accompanied by a fireworks display!

The square in the World of Wine block has already turned on its lights and Santa Claus will be there from December 7th. Here you’ll find music, chocolate and mulled wine.

2. Christmas concerts

There are some musical moments that will make Christmas in Porto more welcoming and are not to be missed for those who can’t live without music. It will be the perfect opportunity to meet some of Portugal’s most renowned musicians. December 8, at 6pm, there will be a concert by Mariza Liz at Aliados Square. This concert presents her first solo album.

On December 22, Rodrigo Leão celebrates the 30th anniversary of his career alongside the city’s young musicians at Aliados square.

The Church of São José das Taipas presents a concert by Júlio Resende “Fado meets Jazz in Porto” on December 7 at 6pm.

3. Christmas markets

Christmas markets are very popular, as they are a gateway to socializing and getting to know Portuguese culture better.

In December and open every day of the week, Jardim de João Chagas (Cordoaria) and Largo do Amor de Perdição host the traditional Christmas Market with handicrafts, a Christmas Tent, a Crystal Tent, a Natural Ice Rink and a Parisian Carousel.

4. Circus at the Coliseum

The Coliseu do Porto has been hosting the circus for 80 years. From December 13 to January 5, you can enjoy a traditional circus show in an original narrative written by a Portuguese author (yet to be revealed). To buy tickets visit coliseu.pt

5. Nutcracker and the Kingdom of Ice

This traditional Christmas play makes its return outside Mar Shopping, Leça da Palmeira, and culture lovers won’t want to miss it. This play features 23 well-known national artists, such as Ângelo Rodrigues, Angie Costa and singer Rita Rocha.

Experience the spirit of Christmas in Porto through Olivia Singular Houses and let yourself be enchanted.
